The Legion of Mary began in Dublin, Ireland in 1921. The format of the meetings has remained the same over the years. It is an international organization. At St. Joseph Parish, our service work (under the supervision of our Pastor) is visiting the home bound, nursing homes, the bereaved and giving crib medals to the mothers and their new babies. The Legion also gives out medals, scapu1ars, holy cards and religious pamphlets. They also provided a book and video library. Some books are on display in the south hallway. Videos and other materials are in the St. Joseph Room.
Legion of Mary members lead the rosary before Mass, attend parish rosaries and funerals, take the Pilgrim Virgin statue (weekly) to homes and improve our prayer life by praying the rosary and Tessera daily. The Legion also has auxiliary members that pray the rosary and Tessera daily, but are not required to attend the weekly meetings. Presently the Legion meets on Tuesdays at 4:00 PM in the St. Joseph's Room. The Legion welcomes both active and auxiliary members.
